What has happened since is hopefully the beginning of a rags to riches story. Under the astute stewardship of owner-chairman-manager Graham Turner, both on and off the field the club is a world away from those dark days. Two promotions in three seasons has seen United rise from the depths of the Football Conference to the 3rd tier of English league football. The club has operated at a profit for several years and a new stadium is in the offing. Although one of its initial aims is no longer vital, BOLSA still exists as an organisation. We have remodelled this website to reflect that but also as a reminder of how close we all came to losing our precious club. This is how we tugged at your heart strings back in 2002 ... "It was 30 years ago today..."As sporting upsets go, few have matched Hereford United knocking Newcastle out of football's FA Cup 30 years ago. The pictures of a swarm of boys swaddled in parkas swamping Ronnie Radford and his undersized shirt occupy a leading place in Britain's devotion to the underdog. That 30 yard screamer and the press it generated put Hereford and its team of giant-killers on the map for ever. Sadly, due to a combination of circumstances, which you can read more about on another page, massive debt means that this great club is struggling to meet its everyday running costs and is unable to develop as it would like. In order to stay alive the club, its supporters and friends must raise money on a regular basis. On these pages we will try to explain, by showing you some of our glorious past, why Hereford United is more than just another football club and why it has such a unique place in the national (and international) footballing psyche. We will then explain the various ways in which you can help the club survive. |
